1-Ounce Gold Futures 24/7: Weekend Guide

UMT guide to 1-ounce gold futures 24/7 access, contract size, maintenance windows, and weekend risk.

TLDR: CME's 1-Ounce Gold futures, code 1OZ, now support weekend trading, subject to scheduled maintenance. One contract represents one troy ounce of gold; a $0.25 per-ounce minimum price increment is $0.25 per contract. This is not the same as saying GC or MGC trade continuously over the weekend. Before running a 1OZ strategy outside normal weekday hours, check broker availability, bid-ask spread, depth, trade-date handling, and order protection.

24/7 access can be useful when macro or geopolitical news breaks on a Saturday. It can also expose a trader to a different operating calendar and a thinner order book. UMT Automator can automate

What is the 1OZ gold futures contract?

CME describes 1OZ as one-tenth of Micro Gold, MGC, and one-hundredth of benchmark Gold, GC, by ounce exposure. Its small unit lets traders express finer gold exposure, but fees and spreads may represent a larger percentage of a tiny scalp. Calculate the expected dollar move and all-in round-trip costs before copying a GC strategy onto 1OZ.

Does 24/7 mean there are no trading breaks?

No. CME's expansion includes at least a two-hour weekly maintenance period over the weekend. It also assigns weekend and holiday activity from Friday evening through Sunday evening the following business day's trade date for clearing, settlement, and reporting. A strategy using a calendar-day reset may not match the broker's trade-date statement. Verify the latest CME schedule and any holiday exceptions before publication or live trading.

Why weekend fills can differ from weekday backtests

More trading hours do not create the same liquidity at every hour. A small displayed size at the best bid or offer can make a market order move farther than expected. A stop-market order may execute beyond the trigger; a stop-limit may fail to exit. Limit orders can sit unfilled. Compare actual weekend spread and depth with the hours used to design the strategy rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all slippage setting.

Five checks for a 1OZ weekend strategy

  1. Confirm the exact orderable 1OZ contract month and broker permissions.
  2. Read the exchange maintenance window and the broker's weekend operating policy.
  3. Set dollar risk from the one-ounce multiplier and include commissions.
  4. Test entry, protective exit, disconnect, and restart behavior in a non-live account where available.
  5. Separate weekend and weekday forward-test results before deciding whether the same rules fit both.

UMT's Getting Started guide requires an active TradingView tab and a stable browser workflow. For unattended weekend use, plan for computer sleep, network loss, broker maintenance, and manual reconciliation. A seven-day trial gives time to test that workflow but does not remove market or platform risk.

FAQ

Can I trade GC 24/7 because 1OZ trades on weekends?

No. CME's weekend expansion is product-specific. Check each contract's own trading hours.

How much is one 1OZ tick?

At the stated $0.25-per-ounce increment and one-ounce size, a tick is $0.25 before fees.

Can a 1OZ chart alone confirm automated broker support?

No. Verify the exact individual contract and connected broker order ticket.
